The Systems screen lists every machine your account manages. From here you choose which systems to show, how to show them, and what to do to them.

Before you start

Make sure you have the following:

  • A console account. Every role can open Systems; what you can do to a system depends on your role and on who owns it.

The screen at a glance

The Systems screen in list view, with the view buttons, saved view, folder filter, search, Actions menu, status dot, column settings and row menu numbered 1 to 8
  1. List, Folders and Grid change how the systems are shown.

  2. The saved view chooses which systems are listed. Active systems is the default.

  3. Folder narrows the list to one or more folders.

  4. Search filters the list as you type.

  5. Actions instructions to add a system, or acts on the rows you have selected.

  6. A green dot means the system is online. A gray dot means it has not checked in recently. Compare Last Heartbeat.

  7. The gear icon chooses which columns are shown.

  8. The ⋮ menu at the end of a row holds every action for that system. See Act on a system.

The footer shows how many systems match the current view and filters, for example 24 systems.

Choosing which systems are listed

The saved view menu, listing Active systems, All systems, Conflicted, DesktopAgents, My systems, Pending deletion and Recently registered

The view menu lists the built-in views: Active systems, All systems, Conflicted, DesktopAgents, My systems, Pending deletion and Recently registered. Save current as… keeps the current combination of view, folder and search as a view of your own. Set as default makes the current view the one the screen opens with.

Folder is a checklist of All, Unassigned, and each folder in the account. Select more than one folder to see them together. The button shows the current selection, for example Folder: All.

Watching screens in grid view

Grid view, showing a thumbnail of each system's screen, with Auto refresh and a thumbnail size slider in the footer

Grid view shows a thumbnail of each system's screen, with the same ⋮ menu on every tile. The footer shows when the thumbnails were last taken (Updated just now) and has a refresh button, an Auto refresh switch that refreshes every 1m, and a slider that sets the thumbnail size.

Offline systems keep the last frame they sent, shown in gray.

Browsing by folder

Folders view, with a folder tree on the left showing the number of systems in each folder

Folders view adds a folder tree to the left of the list, with a count of systems in each folder. Click a folder to show only its systems. Unassigned holds the systems that are not in any folder. For more information about folders, see Organize your systems.

The Actions menu

The Actions menu, with Add system available and Assign to folder, Force retest and Reboot marked Select rows first

Actions holds Add system… and three bulk actions: Assign to folder, Force retest and Reboot. The bulk actions stay unavailable, marked Select rows first, until you tick one or more rows.

Adding a system

The Add system dialog, with an installation key, Windows, Linux and macOS buttons, and the install command box
  1. Click Actions > Add system….

  2. Choose an Installation key.

  3. Under Target OS, click Windows, Linux or macOS. The Install command fills in.

  4. Click the copy button and run the command on the target system.

The system appears on the Systems screen when the installation completes. For cloud-init and the full procedure, the dialog links to the Installation screen. For more information about keys, see Installation keys.
