Everything you can do to one system is in its ⋮ menu on the Systems screen: share it, edit it, move files to it, run commands on it, and restart or upgrade it.

Before you start

Make sure you have the following:

  • An admin role, or ownership of the system.

  • For Transfer files and Send command, a system where the OS is logged in. ⋮ > Inspect > System info > Session state shows whether they are. See Inspect and troubleshoot a system.

The row menu

A system's row menu, from Connect to Delete system

Delete system is available only once the system is offline; until then the menu shows System must be offline beside it.

Sharing a link to a system

  1. Open the system's ⋮ menu and point to Get link.

  2. Choose the mode the link grants: Connect, View only, Admin (shared) or Admin (stealth).

  3. Copy the URL from the Share link dialog.

NOTE: Anyone with this link can connect. A link does not expire on its own. Every link you create is listed under Shares in View Details, and stays Active until you click Revoke.

Editing a system

Edit opens the Edit: System panel on the right. The top half holds Alias, Folder, Tags (name:value or name) and Owner. Name is the hostname and cannot be edited. For how to use them, see Organize your systems.

Below them, Config overrides shows which config the system inherited and when, for example via installation key · Applied 11 min ago. Each setting shows its default in gray and an Effective value underneath. Click Set to override a setting for this one system, or Clear to go back to the default.

When it takes effect

Audio Mode

Sends the system's audio to the viewer. On Windows, Enable also installs the virtual audio device if the installer did not.

Immediately, and reconnects anyone viewing

Automation Action Log

Next automation session

Inactivity Timeout

Disconnects the viewer after a period of inactivity. Default Disabled.

Next session

Virtual Video Driver

Installs the WDDM driver on Windows if it is missing, or switches display mode on Linux. Disable stops using the driver but does not uninstall it.

Windows: next viewer connection. Linux: after a one-time service restart

Click Save to apply. Closing the panel with unsaved changes asks Discard unsaved changes? Choose Keep editing or Discard. For more information about the driver, see The virtual video driver.

Viewing a system's details

View Details opens a read-only panel; the pencil icon switches it to Edit. It lists Name, Status, Hostname, Alias, System UUID, IPv4 Address, IPv6 Address, OS, Type, OS Version, Display, Software Ver., Protocol Ver., Folder, Last Heartbeat, Installation Key, Heartbeat Count, Last Auth, Pending Actions, Settings Updated, Config Applied and Recommended Ver.

The Shares section of the system details panel, listing three active links, each with a Revoke button

Shares, at the bottom, counts the active links (3 active) and lists each one with its mode, when it was created, and when it expires. Revoke ends a link immediately.

Assigning a system to a folder

  1. Open the system's ⋮ menu and choose Assign to folder….

  2. Choose a folder, or Unassigned.

  3. Click Assign.

Assign stays unavailable while the chosen folder is the one the system is already in (Already in this folder).

Transferring files

The Transfer files dialog, with Send to system selected, a chosen file and the remote destination path
  1. Open the system's ⋮ menu and choose Transfer files.

  2. Choose Send to system, or Fetch from system to copy a file back.

  3. Click Choose File and select the file.

  4. Enter the full Remote destination path, including the file name, for example C:\Users\Public\file.txt.

  5. Click Upload.

A message confirms the result, for example Uploaded 12882 bytes to C:\axis-script-logs.txt.

NOTE: The limit is 10 MB per file, and someone must be signed in to the system.

Running a command

The Send command dialog after running whoami in cmd, showing the exit code and output
  1. Open the system's ⋮ menu and choose Send command.

  2. Choose a Shell: bash, sh, cmd, powershell or pwsh. Inspect > System info > Available shells shows which ones the system has.

  3. Type the Command and click Run.

The dialog shows the exit code, how long the command took, and stdout. The command runs as the signed-in user.

Restarting and upgrading

  • Force retest: runs without asking.

  • Restart service: asks Restart HyperView on <system>?, then restarts the HyperView service the next time the system checks in. Active sessions drop briefly.

  • Upgrade HyperView: asks Upgrade <system>?, then queues an upgrade to the latest recommended version. The system installs it at its next check-in and restarts.

Each shows Action queued; it will run the next time the system checks in.

Check it worked

  • An edit shows in the row straight away, and its override's Effective value changes in Edit

  • A transferred file is reported with its size and full path

  • A command reports Exit code 0 and its output

  • A share link appears under View Details > Shares as Active
