Your AI agent needs the HyperView skill before it will use the hv CLI. The skill tells it the tool exists and how to drive it. You can install it with one command, download it, or connect over MCP instead.
Before you start
The
hvCLI installed and signed in. See Give an AI agent access to your systems.
Step 1 - Get the command for your agent
On AI Agents, under Step 4, choose your agent.
Copy the install command.
This line shows where the skill will be written.
To place the skill yourself, download it instead.
Step 2 - Run it in your project
Run the command from your project folder:
hv skill install --client=<name> [--scope user|project] [--print] [--yes]
--scope userinstalls it for all your projects;projectinstalls it for this one.--printshows what would be written, without writing it.--yesskips the confirmation, which is useful in scripts.
To remove it: hv skill uninstall --client=<name>.
Choose the right skill
There are two skills, for different jobs:
hyperview (the default): drives the systems your account manages.
desktopagent: helps a person on their own computer through a support link. Add
--skill=desktopagent.
Give an AI support agent only desktopagent. Give an agent that manages your systems hyperview. You can install both.
Where it's written
Claude Code gets a full skill folder at .claude/skills/hyperview/. Other agents get a short section added to the instructions file they already read:
Agent | File |
Cursor |
|
Windsurf |
|
Cline |
|
Aider |
|
Codex CLI |
|
Gemini CLI |
|
Other | Printed for you to place yourself |
The section sits between <!-- BEGIN hyperview-cli --> and <!-- END hyperview-cli -->. Reinstalling updates only that section, and uninstalling removes only that section, so the rest of your file is left alone.
Use MCP instead
If your agent prefers MCP, the same hv binary can run as an MCP server:
hv mcp install --client=<name> # add HyperView to the agent's MCP config hv mcp serve # run the server hv mcp uninstall --client=<name> # remove it
Check it worked
Ask your agent to run hv systems list. If it lists your systems, the skill, CLI and key are all working.
